History:
WisPark donated nearly $1.6 million to construct the initial phase of the then 425-acre park. On August 5, 1995, the park was officially dedicated to the people of the Village of Pleasant Prairie. On the same date, Lake Andrea was dedicated to Senator Joseph Andrea in recognition of his "significant impact" on the community, and Terwall Terrace was dedicated to Thomas Terwall in appreciation for the strong role he played in the growth of the community.
Planning for RecPlex began in 1998. WisPark donated another $4 million for its construction. A ground breaking was held for LakeView RecPlex on October 12, 1999, and construction immediately followed. RecPlex officially opened its doors to the public on October 1, 2000.
In late 2008, a second major expansion was announced, a 50-meter Olympic-sized competition pool. Made possible through a community-focused partnership with ULINE, Inc, the Village broke ground for the pool on June 22, 2009. The 42,000sq ft expansion included a competition pool and related amenities along with seating for approximately 600 spectators. Water and air in the new pool is heated and cooled with a geothermal technology placed in the adjacent Lake Andrea. An ultraviolet technology, similar to that installed in the original aquatic center, is used to treat the water. With the latest expansion, the total size of the facility is now just over 302,000sq ft. The RecPlex Aqua Arena was dedicated to the citizens of the Village of Pleasant Prairie on June 10, 2010.
